Becoming a person of ‘great character’ is a lifelong journey that requires constant learning and self-reflection. But it isn't always easy, and can often be overlooked in the pursuit of excellence – whether that be academic, sporting, music or something else.
Here at NextGen Academy, we want to flip the focus and put character back at the centre. Afterall, it’s what guides us through success and triumph, as well as through challenges and failure. We want to help young people discover what it is that makes them great, so they can reach their full potential and grow their influence. That’s why our programme not only teaches core life and leadership skills, but also encourages regular self-reflection and conversations around how we can become the best version of who we already are – both for ourselves, and those around us.

What is covered during the course?
Our academy covers a vast array of topics including values, smart decision-making, budgeting, team-building, first aid, CV writing, interview skills, business enterprise, Strengthsfinder, life coaching, public speaking, and community work. Our expert speakers provide invaluable insight and practical strategies for young people looking to develop as leaders and make a positive impact on their communities and the world around them.
How much is the course?
The full value of the NextGen Academy programme is over $1,500.
Thanks to the generosity of our community partners, local businesses, and charitable trusts, every successful applicant automatically receives a $1,300 scholarship, reducing the cost to just $200 per student.
Flexible weekly payment plans are available — we never want cost to be a barrier to participation.
Who is the course for?
It is most suited to year 12 and 13 high school students who are motivated to grow, discover their true potential and make a difference in their world.
When is the next course?
Term 1 - February to April

Tauranga Academy - held over seven Sunday afternoons 1-5pm between February to April.

Rotorua Academy - held over seven Saturday afternoons 1-5pm starting February to April.
Plus a combined weekend camp in February for both the Tauranga and Rotorua crew.
What recognition does this course have in the workforce?
Since 2010, we have had over 1000 graduates. Many have used the skills and reference gained to get holiday jobs and scholarships. A few have won awards and gained leadership positions at school using what they have learned at the Academy. IT IS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT.
